Liu Linglie was born into one of Asia's most accomplished artistic families–her father, Liu Genggu, is a renowned mineral pigment painter in Taiwan. In 1989, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University, where she began her journey at the intersection of East and West. This cultural fusion deepened her artistic understanding and cultivated a unique style that delves beneath surfaces to reveal underlying meanings and to create emotional connections with her audience. Today, her work is displayed in prestigious museums, institutions, and foundations. Throughout her career, Liu has observed the cycle of seasons and the inevitability of life, seeking to explore its unchanging truths. Amid the constant flux of the world, she believes that a tranquil and noble soul is the ultimate redemption, which can bring spiritual contentment and meaning. Liu's artworks exhibit a sophisticated subtlety and profound poetry deeply rooted in ancient Eastern cosmological philosophy, particularly the Unity of Heaven and Humanity. Her skillful use of colors often contrasts with her use of muted black, white, and gray backgrounds, resulting in an invitation to imagination and contemplation. The well-composed arrangement of various elements in her paintings—harmony and tension, light and shadow, sorrow and hope, life and death, illusion and reality—achieves a meaningful equilibrium with soul-stirring power. Much like poems, Liu’s artworks transport viewers into specific scenes and emotions, allowing for a captivating immersive experience.
