Shun-Wen Chung

Deeply influenced by the serenity of her rural homeland, Chung Shun-wen's art is a canvas of genuine emotion and sincerity. Born into a family celebrated for its literary achievements—most notably her esteemed Hakka writer grandfather, Chung Li-ho, and father, Chung Tie-min—Chung inherited a keen acumen for observing her surroundings. However, she diverged from the family tradition of writing to express her insights through painting, extending her family's artistic legacy into a new medium. Environmentally conscious, Chung exclusively uses high-quality, natural mineral pigments for her work, stating, "I don't want the water I wash my brushes with to pollute my homeland."

Her art is characterized by its elegant simplicity, capturing a broad range of subjects—from the tranquil faces of her sleeping parents to the intricate patterns of her grandmother's shirt and the movements of playful cats and regal birds. Whether rendering expansive rural landscapes or the delicate features of flora and fauna, Chung’s works emanate a sense of wonder and peace. Renowned among art collectors for their lifelike textures and meticulous precision, they serve as intimate, evocative windows into the joys and realities of everyday life.
