An Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Gongbi Painting Association of Taiwan, Chiu Su-mei has over three decades of experience in Gongbi painting, an ancient technique revered for its demanding precision in hand and brush control. Chiu’s solo exhibitions have been featured in prestigious galleries across Taiwan, Japan, Canada, and South Korea. Inspired by the elegant aesthetics of Song Dynasty (960–1279) art, Chiu blends elements of antiquity and poetry into her creations, bringing everyday scenes to life—backyard views, lychee orchards, and birds perched on trees—with exquisite detail and a unique charm. Chiu’s artistry is defined by skillful and precise lines, a hallmark of Gongbi painting. Whether she is depicting a flower petal, a bird's feather, or intricate foliage, each stroke is carefully executed, varying in thickness and intensity. After more than 30 years of dedication to her craft, Chiu has evolved beyond technical excellence. She now uses dynamic compositions and proportions, enriching her art with layered meanings. Her work balances vibrant life scenes and subdued backgrounds, blending color with monotone, merging chaos with order, and vitality with serenity. This depth ensures her work remains captivating for art collectors and enthusiasts alike.
